Frontier Airlines has announced they will be adding new flights from Austin bringing the total number of destinations to 16
New routes include Charlotte, Cincinnati, Columbus, New Orleans, Phoenix, Raleigh/Durham, Ontario (California) and San Jose.
While Frontier often has the cheapest list price tag, it’s important to keep in mind the added costs such as paying for a carry-on. I’ve flown Frontier a few times, and while it wasn’t the most pleasant experience, it also wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
In fact, This year, Frontier Airlines was ranked worst out of 12 airlines in the Airline Quality Rating. The list rates the airlines based on mishandled baggage, consumer complaints, on-time performance and involuntary denied boardings. Out of the 12 companies included in the survey, Frontier came in at 12th and Alaska Airlines came in at No. 1.
It’s always worth it to check out Southwest if you’re looking for a cheap flight. They’re often cheaper than Frontier, particularly if they are running a sale, and they have much better service including:
- 2 Free Bags
- Free Carry-on
- No change or cancellation fees (you get the money back as a voucher)
- Staff that actually cares.
I almost always fly Southwest, usually because I’m flying with someone else and the companion pass is a deal that can’t be beaten.
In any case, this is good news for travelers in Austin. More competition will force everyone to lower their prices. In related news, Bergstrom is growing at a great pace with nine new gates being added. Delta and Norwegian have also announced new international routes starting next year
Have you ever flown Frontier? What are your experiences?
