25 % Off all Local Deals
Anyone who uses Groupon regularly knows they run sales pretty much every week. The standard is 20% local and occasionally you’ll find $5 off $20, $10 off $40, $15 off $60, $30 off $100 which can be a great deal if you hit the right price point.
How to Qualify for Groupon Student
Like Spotify, Groupon verifies that one is indeed a student using SheerID. While I don’t recommend doing it, I’ve heard of people fooling the system using publicly available data.
This works with both new and old accounts, so even if you’re a long time customer you can start getting the discount as a student.
Why Use Groupon
Groupon is certainly not as popular as they one were, and their stock price shows it. In fact they are really the only one remaining from the once crowded local deals space. Amazon and Google have both closed up shop and Living Social was swallowed up by Groupon in 2016.
For the astute deal seeker however, Groupon can still be a gold mine. Businesses know they can easily fill up empty space or sell unused tickets on it, even though deal seekers are not necessarily the best repeat customers.
I regularly save 50% off retail by checking groupon for activities that I would normally pay for anyway, like golf, dining, and the occasional concert.
They currently have a fantastic deal for a gold Costco Membership. While the price of $60 cannot be reduced with discounts you receive some amazing extras effectively halving the price.
- $20 Cash card
- Paper Towels Create-a-Size 12/160 ct ($15.69 value)
- VitaRain Zero Flavored Water 24/20 oz bottles ($9.99 value)
- Food Court Whole Pizza ($9.95 value)
- $25 off an order of $250 on Costco.com
- $75 Costco Cash Card toward Costco Travel
Most people would agree that their paper towels are among the best so I’d consider that a solid $15 discount. In order to qualify, you cannot have had a membership card since April 1, 2017. I called them to see if there was any flexibility to which they responded, no. ( My membership ended April 30). I’d be interested to hear user reports to the contrary.
If you or someone you know is a student I highly recommend applying for this offer. An astute deal hunter can literally save thousands of dollars on activities they would be paying full price for anyway.
